by Tom Spiers
The Tradition Bearers - Scots Songs and Ballads Series LTCD1005
Aquavitae’s in mi heid, an brandy’s rumlin in mi wime
My feet they winna hud the grun, an o drunk will I win hame

Aye drunk an seldom sober
Aye drunk ere I win hame

I got five shillin’s fae a frein, tae buy a coatie tae mi loon
But the weary drouth cam in mi throat, an I drunk it a ere I got hame

I’ve selt the sheen fae aff my feet, likewise the sark fae aff my back
My watch an’ chain are in the pawn, an o drunk will I win hame

I’ve selt the meal oot o the kist, my wife she niver did me blame
The mice an rats wis blamed for that, an o drunk did I win hame

I hae a wife an bairnies three, an dear I loo her an the bairns
Bit fan the drink taks hud o me, I canna even mind their names

Noo some can drink an nae get drunk, an some can fecht an nae get slain
But I get roarin fechtin drunk an pish my wages doon the drain
